Third Wave Matrix, Inc was established in 2006 immediately after I read Toffler's Third Wave and Powershift. If you haven't read the series, or it's been a while I highly recommend it. Now, 30 years after, they show amazing insights. To read more about me personally, check out my LinkedIn profile page.
Our automotive contract and consulting business continues to be strong and enjoyable. With over 20 years of experience, it remains a major focus for us.
However, for a long time now I have wanted to do something to help other small businesses to also achieve success. I started building web sites for very nominal fees. While I enjoyed it, I also soon realized that not only was I working for very little money, the business owner was not getting value even for the small amount I charged because there was very growth after I finished. Usually, the site would just sit there.
|
Putting up a web site to have it sit idly by really didn't accomplish much for anyone. Then I started to formulate what is becoming "My Town 4 Less".
|
|
My Town 4 Less is a part of Third Wave Matrix, Inc.

Our world is changing. We believe we are a part of that change. We embrace the old methods - as well as the new and do not ignore what is going on around us right now.
|
The idea for My Town 4 Less came from these foundations.
We realize several things:
|
- We get a lot of advertising every day
- Almost all of that advertising is from a national chain of some type - not locally driven
- Communities and small businesses are vital
- The advertising done by these national chains is pretty pricey
- Most small or local businesses cannot buy that kind of advertising
- Most small or local businesses cannot afford to invest the time required
- Perception is, in fact, reality - I have had many conversations with people I know personally. I asked why they always go to the big chain stores every week and why they do not, in fact, shop locally. There are four responses that I typically get:
- There isn't anything in my neighborhood
- The prices are too high
- The selection isn't there
- They are never open
So, we have had some time to think it over and have, in fact, come up with the answer.
Perhaps because my personal background is IT (information systems), I am used to the concept of shared services. Basically, that is what we offer. Shared marketing, advertising and customer services.

How does it work?
We have administrative, IT, Web 2.0, sales, marketing, and all of the other components in place to run successful marketing strategies.
A percentage of each of our customer's payments goes to each of these individuals. The administrator may wind up working a full 8 hours for us but on multiple client's problems in an orderly way - not just one client. Most clients do not need a full time administrator for the type of work we do, so this would be a wasted resource. By doing this process, we now share that adminstrator's salary over our client base making it completely affordable for us all.
That is the basis of our idea. Share expertise over a number of businesses is just smart business. This allows you to run a leaner and more effective business and that is good for us all.
